SweetsSweets is a cover all term used, primarily in the UK, to describe most types of confectionary and other foods with a very high content of sugar. Sweets more specifically denotes types of confectionary that are entirely sugar based, such as hard boiled sweets like humbugs and sticks of rock all made by heating sugar to different temperatures to achieve certain consistencies, although in a broader usage of the term will encompass chocolates, fudge, toffee and other various items of confectionary. Although sweets are general pleasant to eat consuming a large quantity can be detrimental to you health as is the case with all food stuffs containing high sugar level. Hard boiled sweets and other sweets composed made wholly from sugar
are especially damaging to teeth and frequent over consumption can lead
to problems such as tooth decay and cavities which may require potentially
painful dental work. Also over eating high sugar and high fat foods
such as sweets can lead to other health problems such as weight gain,
diabetes and heart disease. Despite the potentially damaging effect
of sweets on health they are made and eaten all over the world and are
relatively harmless if consumed in moderation. Many different varieties
of sweets are produced by peoples of every culture and the tradition
of their preparation and recipe will yield many and varied results. |
